About time it got a little patriotic! Alexander Balanescu might be perhaps the most accomplished Romanian musician alive, having lended his violin skills to everyone from Michael Nyman, Ornette Coleman and David Byrne to Goldfrapp, The Flying Lizards, Pet Shop Boys, Kraftwerk, etc. - aside from performing with his own string quartet, of course. This disc is but a homage to another praised Romanian artist, Maria Tanase (1913-1963), who's been quite an inspiration to many of her peers, like say Marilyn Monroe would be to Americans or Edith Piaf to the French. You can hear her voice here and there, interpreting some of her most famous songs, but this stuff's mostly instrumental, from a personal view, keeping the spirit alive through classical music, jazz, and just a touch of electronics. All in all, it comes to prove that you don't have to be a laptop wizard to make interesting music, and while this won't be your most played record of all time, it could be one that you just stick in from time to time and cry like a wittle baby...

Not nearly October, but good to have you back.
I've found sendspace to be a reliable and unfussy host of late.
Um, in fact, I've dl the rar archive twice, both times it only gets to 32mb and is corrupt.
Could this be an issue with the host?
hey mate, nice to see you too. yes, it could've been some host probs, although it works fine for others. anyway, here's another link..
