Seriously fresh and seriously top quality record, with top fellow Italian sidemen on saxophone, bass/clarinet, and drums. Nice work from Petrella too - mostly be-bop type stuff meets subtle electronics, made palatable for folks like me who don't obsess over the jazz. Very lush, very sunday afternoon vein melting kind of vibe, though rhythmic percussion bursts occur quite frequently and knock your socks for good. In addition to own compositions, there are also standards: the renditions of Thelonious Monk (Trinkle, Tinkle), Tony Williams (There Comes a Time), as well as tributes to Sun Ra and Ellington... I am no big connaisseur, but it fells like he picked up where they left off - reason enough to be now part of Blue Note, in turn. Yeah, the fifth track Sacred Whale is somewhat "pointless"; the rest obviously aren't. Equals 11/12, equals 0.916, equals 9/10 and a thank you, congratulations, etc.
