Armed with only samplers, mics and turntables, powered by solar energy and an uncompromising belief in 'truth' over 'spin', these desert nomads are the real deal, creating an album that reflects the frontline activism they have become famous for.

"Unsound $ystem" is a bullet to the dark heart of the Australian psyche. Sonically rugged and funky, Monkeymarc's beats draw their influence from '70s reggae, Public Enemy's Bomb Squad and the golden era hiphop of the early 1990s. The album moves from A-grade head thunkin' hiphop to seriously heavy dub reggae, all laced with relevant and politically charged vocals and samples, with ARIA award winning DJ Wasabi providing cuts.

About two years ago, this album has been seen to mark a "new stage" of maturity for Oz hip-hop. Certainly it's well written, musically imaginative; sounds pretty much like nothing else, and has a bold, solid structure. The beats, the bass, the rhymes and sampled snipets - the whole thing's just delightfully audacious whilst polemical and dark throughout. All hail the best Aussie group since Curse ov Dialect. Recommended.

haven't kept up with the dubstep scene.. there are a billion names releasing, but it's like they're all put in the same context and i can't make much a difference. last album i got was "My Demons" by Distance, strictly because of the title. i'll give it a closer listen, soon.

Good choice - this is one of the better Oz hip-hop albums out there. I would also suggest you check out the Hermitude Album "Tales Of The Drift".

No worries man. Hermitude's album is my fav Oz hip-hop album, followed then by Combat Wombat, then The Herd and Koolism.

This is kickass, not softcock stuff like the Hoods and Herd are doing now. Embarrassed to say I didn't know them, and I'm an Aussie. Thanks doru ;)

if you dig the heavy beats and dub of Combat Wombat, you've got to check out some new australian acts on the beats/reggae tip, also on Elefant Traks...
Astronomy Class - Exit Strategy (colab effort from Sir Robbo, Chasm and Ozi Batla, and guests like Lotek), great album with some awesome dubs as extra's on the cd.
Mista Savona Presents Melbourne Meets Kingston.
