...and we get back to Lex, with a flex. Hip-hop folks often go for an alter-ego or two when dabbling in side-projects, so to find Philly-based Jneiro Jarel taking his from the "Doctor Who" show doesn't say much at first (lots of Dr's out there, aren't they?). It does make some sense though. Just as the show follows a time-travelling adventurer known as "The Doctor", Beat Journey finds "Who Dat?" time-travelling as well, by melding live instrumentation and samples from various time periods and various genres. It's been done before - not always with as much style. Lazy as it may sound, this is like the perfect cross between Madlib and Prefuse 73. Really blunted jazzy instrumentals akin to the Beat Konducta series, but somehow much prettier. Floaty...

Something like South Bronx making out with South America.

I approve of this record.
