We need to differentiate between at least two facets of electro-jazz: one very loungey, rhythmic and affected, smartly popularised in its time by groups like St. Germain; the other sensitive and rather discrete/minimalist... "elevator music" of Tortoise breed - a kind of ear training used for brain stimulation instead of for brainwashing. It's the latter that Triosk were calling upon on this 3rd album, with evocative sounds, like one of the most eminent exponents of their kind. And since most of their music is impromptu, they even add a bit of their own. The tracks gain lightness here - a spontaneity that could be lacking from electro-jazz hybridizations; they keep a false predictable minimalism which makes important each gesture, each key of piano or striking of drums, and highlights their sudden expansion, the found density of certain passages. An album of total maturity and control, freshness and inventiveness, which stands a notch above Biosphere's latest and basically everything that came out this year, but which is most likely not to reach out to many fresh pairs of ears...

for me this one is the kind of album which sounds much better in preview clips at juno.co.uk.
but then you get it, the only reaction is "meh".
okay album, but nothing exceptional and quite boring in it's minimal ways.
there's quite a lot of nu-jazz that is just like this, and then thank God there's some that's much better.
