My first Andrew Liles experience... it goes without saying I am freaked out and embarassed and excited and all that jazz. Truth is I'm not sure what to start with. For the nerd props, surely, there's some info on the B & D (don't you love it when an artist has a page so ORGANIZED?), but to throw in my 2 cents, you will have to have it briefer. First off, this is music that's got lots of stuff going; as part of the on-going «Vortex Vault» series, Black Hole is another fruit of Andrew's dusted, collected archive material, gathering various own and most obscure recordings - textures upon textures of all things sonic. Strings, pianos, voices, murmurs, clever drifting electronics and found sounds... How much is treated and in what detail, we'll just have to guess, but the wealth of sources and ideas is, I think, quite phenomenal alone. Whoever called the man an "alchemist" was right on, 'cause in scope, this feels far more than the sum of the parts, in a real, organic way. It's not made to be unlistenable, but challenging and perhaps not something you always "get". One thing I advise is to take out your home, get it outside. Grab some boots and trusty headphones, give it (once at least) an evening walk. Really, give it some time to breathe and see what happens. Stay off the couch - there's something about the streets, the air, the lights, that turns it to magic. Listen close and let it lead you where it will (after which you may as well buy it, before it's all sold out).
