Under the 'Post' name, Australian-born James Wilkinson (High Pass Filters/Snuff Puppets/Bucketrider) releases his first solo, explaining the meanings: "firstly as a reference to being post - a particular period of music making; then as a way of describing the music as a creation which comes in the wake of its many influences, and finally, the fact that my wife just started working at the post office this year". A nice combination of computer composition and live instrumental orchestrations, largely disparate from Aaron Martin's, labelmate on Preservation. "Mouse on Mars are a big influence, as they are able to weave so many layers of melody and rhythm in to their tracks that always defies the dance music convention of bass, beat, melody and the frustrating formality of composing music within your computer. I reckon they're the best at it really, although the latest influence for the last six years, and probably my greatest has really been Brazilian music in all its forms. MPB, hiphop, funk, samba, foro - I love it all". By the end, he even smuggles a drone piece as well. So yes, pretty cool debut: makes for a fun ride, and it shows some hidden skill in this métier.
