Minimalism as a whole, and techno-minimalism in particular, can be interesting for bringing certain "clear", very specific sounds/samples to the foreground of composition. Thus the listener is asked to analyze not the entire spectrum of endless possible layers, but the completely "concrete" part - in this case synthetic polyrhythms, or the so-called locked grooves of machines. Which in order to make should be harder than expected, since the end result must not sound poorly, but engaging. Or else instead of immersion, you would probably feel a great, empty void.

Reanimator have it. Control, and a dose of brilliance. With them, you can soak up all the specialness of crude, dirty electronics. Filling the background as much as the foreground, yet still oriented towards a concrete angle of perception which may provoke complete rejection in the untrained. Well, I will only note that Special Powers is one of the few techno-related albums to remember from the whole enormous musical material I've heard. If that's of any relevance, you're to decide.

The vibrations these two anonymous musicians produce are deep enough to cause strong sexual arousal, as alien as the technology of a visiting spacecraft, and heavy like the boot of an enemy on your throat. Special Powers is littered with a spectrum of styles, the moods shifting from cold and technological to dirty and carnal fluidly. The beats pound like war drums at times and at others they come to form simple, minimal grooves that pulse and groan with all the twitching, robotic life of a science-fiction novel. -Brainwashed
