Wouter van Veldhoven
Ruststukken
Slaapwel 2007

01. Stoffig Stuk
02. Stukke Rust

Hushly arisen on horizon, "Slaapwel is a small record label specialized in music to fall asleep to", with its name translated as "sleep well" or "good night" or "sweet dreams" - how very fitful (I suppose Bedroom Community would follow close behind), and announcing yet a new resource for warm-fuzz-decayed... surprises. For now, Wouter is the handiest around to start the series - the Dutch king of broken tape recorders and anything else too worn-out to be anything but "warm-fuzz". First, 'Stoffig Stuk' (read "dusty piece") has him reworking 'Stofstuk' by Machinefabriek, complemented with the 19min 'Stukke Rust', in which xylophone, melodica, and guitar make intentions even clearer. While I still think Kaspar Hauser has Wouter's most lulling sounds to date, this EP works nicely along the same lines, offering pleasant listening. Not tested for its purpose, but there's probably great potential.
