By trade Sir Richard Bishop is a dealer of rare occult books and fine paper ephemera. For many in the musical cosmos, he has occasion to travel the smoke-filled carnie circuit as one third of the Sun City Girls medicine show. But in the twilight hours of a shadow world sensed only by few, Bishop is a dazzling unaccompanied guitarist.

...and we should all give him some proper credit for what wonders he unlocked in just a few hours of recording. There's always alot that you can draw (and learn) from free improvisations, specially when they're as fluid and dynamic as these. The playing's clearly very spot on, carried out most confidently, but again the blend of sounds and styles stands out - one which I don't remember witnessing before. Flamenco and Gypsy, with North African and Indian ragas? Together? From the same-same guitar? Enough said then... Love it or not, Sir Richard Bishop fiddles with the devil, tearing hearts, messing heads up; and all I can think is "hell!".
