Andrey Kiritchenko
Mort aux Vaches
Staalplaat 2007

01. Mort aux Vaches [42:04]

Things have been quiet for Staalplaat, but it seems as the label has moved to another building in Berlin and they're up and running once again. Celebrated with a new release for «Mort aux Vaches», the ongoing series of CDs recorded at VPRO radio in Amsterdam, which by now has passed its 50 mark. A small encyclopedia of modern music, and oh: an encyclopedia of CD design. This new one comes with some sort of bathroom curtain plastic cover that is partly transparent, and also makes a hallucinogenic sight. The showcased artist: Andrey Kiritchenko, our man on the laptop (and more!) from the Ukraine, proud owner of Nexsound. Expect the 'usual' crackles, hiss, and processed field recordings, and expect Andrey to play some nice warm ambient glitch with them. Halfway between Fennesz and microsound, not yet really pop-like, and cut into one long piece of moody, atmospheric melody. Fortunately not too abstract with his ploinks on the guitar or his drones from the autoharp, which only add structure & substance to the overall proceedings. In one word: delikatessen.
