01. Dust, Static
02. Brilliant Dead Highways: Revisited
3-inch CD-R by the duo of Alex Cobb and David Kirby containing two tracks - one at 15 minutes long, the other at 5 only. The longer title track opens with a dramatic surge of intensity, as it rapidly shifts from tranquil, chirping feedback to a thick wall of guitar-cum-electronics sound. A few minutes gone, the intensity reaches a plateau and the multiple out-of-sync waves of drones gain massive physical presence. Compared to that, the second piece - a reworking of Taiga Remains' 'Brilliant Dead Highways' - is much calmer in nature, almost ethereal, or, to put differently, a curtain rather than a wall of drones. It is, however, equally pleasant and offers a fine combination of softly flickering electronics and crystal-clear overtones. Unfortunately far too short, holding enough potential to go on for much longer, it establishes a beautiful counterbalance to the first track and provides some fantastic, shimmering textures that are as discreet and dreamy as attention-grabbing.
