01. Wallpaper Music 1 [01:00:16]
Courting the ameublement music concept, the piano is prepared both as a forerunner to ambient sound or as a mechanized player automaton and yet, hides sophisticated accretions stemming from a personal approach. The materials unfold according to a myriad of microscopic, independent rhythms superimposed as transparent layers of sheet music. The coexistence of prepared/non-prepared, and the subtle nuances evoked by the various timbres contribute to forming complex clusters of constantly shifting kaleidoscopic percussive sounds, endlessly turning and still at the same time. Other moments alternate percussive cascades with periods of silence. -Modisti

One of total 3 piano pieces by Australian based composer/improviser Erik Griswold (the other two are widely available online for only $2 both, from a series of web services - see list @ ROOM40 website); each piece spanning roughly an hour, based on a particular approach to prepared piano, from very dense to sparse and even sparser. The term "wallpaper" is used here to present "an audio tint gilded with intricate sonic detailing and an overwhelming sense of intimacy"... which actually sounds accurate for a description. Although if you were to ask me, I would simply rate & recommend it as some of the best Hangover Music ever made. Really does wonders after nights of getting pissed (we had a 'wine fest' in our city, so take my word for what it's worth), and you can even choose your levels - 1 to 3 - depending on how bad your head is. Nº 1 would be a more severe case, I suppose - it could definitely end up "overwhelming" for less serious patients, whom I'd rather prescribe the 3rd, to peacefully get them back to sleep. Oh, I'm just kidding. Whichever one you choose, you'll be rewarded with some beautiful, exquisite delicacy and un-obtrusiveness, all academic pretensioning aside. Cage & Satie are smiling from clouds up above...
