Of all music, old and new, there are a few for which I can't find time lately, and drum'n'bass is one of them. The fast patterns, the amens... may be cool in dim night clubs, but not in my home. What I do like about d'n'b is the way it sometimes bangs together pretty things & strings against more brutal beats & basslines - a contrast which, if handled properly, can still result in rather interesting, "serious shit, dude". From Ad Noiseam we have Detritus. Never heard the name before - sounds like some sick cartoon character; they say he's got a metal background though - promissing already? Turns out that he's excellent at this sort of stuff too, building tracks so thick and rich you know are not by one who only knows breakbeats (his interviews even mentioned the name of Richard Wagner next to discussions of keyboards used for production). Don't take it lightly though, 'cause Detritus doesn't - this is "a fruit of anger and frustration", however humanistic. In fact, don't take it lightly at all. Whoever brings up violin, piano, bass guitar, or Piaf to the table gets a 10 in my book.
