Myriad of Satyrids
Self-released 2006
01. Beyond the Psalter, Lunaria Enters the Blue Lodge...
02. Ingesting Una de Gato
03. Absconding to Tuvalu
I'm staring at the liner notes for Myriad of Satyrids, trying to write something clever. A pink piece of paper with some ancient typewriter styles, enlisting the usual things, giving the usual thanks. Still, it doesn't look all that formal. The pink strikes a nerve; the words play with capitals, as trying to detract from their meanings; there are even four exclamation marks and eight suspension dots for effects. I can picture Tara writing on that paper alone at dawn, in the middle of a forest - leaves in her hair, fingers hitting the keys. She says the music was recorded in a church. Well, playing it around fireworks today was absolutely memorable. I was sold right from the first 5 minutes, when vocals shape-shifted so many times, finally meeting an organ to shape-shift again. The following 20 minutes of 'Beyond the Psalter, Lunaria Enters the Blue Lodge Ringing the Bells of Capistrano Under a Canopy of Moons' are moments of pure bliss, my friends - time seemed to stop, space became two-dimensional. I can't for the life of me describe how beautiful and daring that song ("canticle") is... with Tara never even uttering a word. It moves subtly, with no fear of sudden ruptures, but brought so very well, flute and chimes giving depth to the sound. Principal traits lie in this strange mixture of religious mysticism and of modern trickery that Tara doesn't seek to camouflage, and that produces an impression of evocative disuse, certainly more powerful/personal than a simple act of recycling. The following two pieces, although shorter, live up to this promise, with the last one calmer and more classical-ish ending with handclaps and an usual "thanks".
