Someone at the DS/FD blog must feel awful for not posting it any sooner, as "experimental, electronic, drone, ambient, noise, avantgarde, field recording" are probably amongst the broadest terms to pull when speaking of Szczepanik's debut. Someone else may cringe at the thought of a "noise" element, but trust me, this is far from the noise music made by 'artists' simply holding their guitars to an amp. The key to Astilbe Rubra is to stick with what it's got: give a little to gain a lot; allow something momentarily abrasive to reprogram the ears - wash over them - and you will see eventually the "bigger, brighter picture". Szczepanik pretty much achieves the same sharp contrast of intense and mellower soundscapes not far from Raglani's output, yet his methodology can be a total mystery; from multiple atmospheric layers treated with manipulations, to more minimalist experiments on 'Delays - Interference' for example, where he plays with turntables and an aluminum foil, taken in a studio, processed, assessed, and made elusive. Tracks like 'Convivencia', on another hand, combine conversation snippets with car traffic and an uneven wheezy sound that makes feel like you're traveling, moving... on a highway, or in space, until everything breaks up in smaller pieces. Music to paint all kinds of pictures, very interesting to check out. Limited to 104 copies for the world. Neat package.

Seriously Doru649 - don't even bat an eyelid to this joker - you've been providing the blogging community the most amazing music for what - nearly 2 years now? I've been amazed at the music I've learnt about from you - particularly the small run stuff.
As we also acknowledge DSFD for the great job it's doing.
