Comprised of Aram Shelton (US) on saxophone, bass clarinet, trumpet and electronic processing and Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson (Iceland) on electronic processing and prepared guitar, Son of Gunnar, Ton of Shel - an anagram of their last names - deliver tricky freeform music, using their live sampling and processing (via PD and MSP) for an organo-electronic touch. Instrumental improvisation meets musique concrète composition; clattering freakout along many moments of more subtle meditation; lots of layers add and drop; non-standard tunings and a very elastic feel to the rhythm. There's a positive cooperation and combined effort to produce these sounds, and not much that could elicit something different from enjoyment, even when the team will sometimes get pretty far out. Some mind-boggling elegance at work here, shifting focus a couple frames forward into abstract ambiance.
