What could these musicians do after collectively playing on a million records, releasing a million more, and nurturing a scene that is both international and inner-visionary? Why not release a record that is so stunning in its scope and so well executed in its manner that it defies simple comparisons. Such is the story of Softwar and this lushly presented gift to our eyes and ears. Focusing on what could be called more 'traditional' rhythm structures, the songs merely lull you into a false security before melting your brain with some heavy layers of tone, provided by multiple organs and keyboards. While I haven't covered much of Jewelled Antler's huge discography, this has to be one of their grandest moments yet. Loren Chasse, Christine Boepple, Kerry McLaughlin, Geoff Koops - all more or less involved in the collective, show that they can deliver quite a bit of power, even if taking longer than usual to put the whole thing together. The sound's not overly experimental, nor plain conventional, but fits perfectly with J.A.'s aesthetics, where old world charm meets freeform styles, environmental, natural beauty, soothing and more psychedelic fusions, holding that something special which one normally comes to expect. Shitty rip, yes, but it will have to do for now, or else you can always buy your very own copy. Limited to 100.
