06. Cymbalism [Rechezentrum Remix]
Hanno Leichtmann comes from jazz and free jazz/ performed with many international free improvising and electronic musicians/ is part of the Pole live band and the Vulva String Quartet/ sometimes records with Jan Jelinek/ has been known as Static to all dedicated CCO heads, and this latest project feels like something wholly formed from all of his experiences through the years, rounding up both drummer training & digital fuckeries alike. Don't expect some hyper-active free drum sets however, 'cause the focus stays on cymbals alone, and if you're still having doubts, check the title track to fully grasp their effect. From there on, Leichtmann carefully adds some new textures, and even though some of them don't immediately grab you, there's plenty of hidden melody, bass runs and dubby motifs that keep things absolutely safe and playful at the same time. It all comes to full circle with the Rechezentrum remix (which is exactly what Daedelus' was to Flying Lotus - scroll down if needed), and for once I'm begging to hear more from someone called Jackson. One of the better releases this year.
