The Necks

Chemist
Fish of Milk 2006

01. Fatal (21:13)
02. Buoyant (19:51)
03. Abillera (19:50)

One of those records that I find once in a month and makes me stop and give a holy shit. This is The Necks' 13th release in about 20 years, and it stuns me how they stayed all while so under-the-radar. Well, cause it's a stunning piece of work. If you know how starry-eyed I got over Triosk, you can tell how surprising it was to find this trio coming from same Sydney, Australia, and performing in the same vein. Neither jazz nor rock, or anything that's gonna set the blog world on fire. It's all about the execution: starting with a simple motif and developing with gradual changes, while piano, bass, drums and guitar keep it feeling lively and hypnotic. The result is possibly a flawless instrumental album.

Can't believe my eyes, a Necks post. I've seen these guys in Melbourne (my home), I'm no jazz fan, which is how I would class their music, but the musicianship I witnessed was peerless.
