BOTOS are actually two brothers - Kristina and Michael Donnely from the NZ/Aussie camp. After initially being mildly intrigued by their titles, I went on with reading the liner notes, which indeed enlisted everything from broken drums, zeyelaphone, cranker bells and gull horn to, err, psylocybinta, tilt, tremor, and violence (no, not some kind of violin). So far they've released at least 6 other albums as BOTOS, seemingly taking the same palette ("strings, percussion, electronics, found items, abused technologies" - sometimes "enchanted insects") and improvisational techniques, with a focus on "ritualistic metaphors" and "ecstatic release". Music is a "sacred art" - they never practice, but record and then select the best bits, often layering when needed. In a word, deep - polyrhythmic - spiritual - non-purist - tribal - improv. Guess I should mention beautiful and listenable too: free music at its best.
